South Lodge
Fantastic week at South Lodge! Almost reluctant to leave a review in case it makes it harder to secure a future date, but we have just booked to come back later this year and try Courtyard View.
The cottage was perfect with a beautiful garden and wonderful hosts. So much to do in the local area and slightly beyond. A brilliant environment for the whole family.

Spent an amazing week at South Lodge, 2 adults and 2 kids age 10 and 12. The lodge is well equipped, comfortable beds, good WiFi (I spent one day working from the lodge) and it was lovely and quiet. There's loads of outdoor adventures to be had in the area and on the farm itself and a drive of 30 mins or so puts you right in the peak district for walks and other activities. Would definitely go back.

We loved our time at South Lodge. The house contains everything you need for a short holiday (pans, trays, plates etc) and is very clean. Playing in the large and well maintained garden and exploring the grounds was a highlight of our week. Our toddler didn’t want to leave.

Beautiful cottage. Very private with huge beautiful garden. Lovely sheep next door (Roger and Crewe) come to u each morning for a fuss and a pear. Had quite a bit of driving but that was because it was out of the way of the hustle and bustle. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay visiting some of the beauty spots like the river dove stepping stones.

After staying in Ardsley Lodge two years ago we decided to come back and try South Lodge. A lovely cottage set in beautiful surroundings. The cottage had everything we needed and felt very homely. Great garden for our 7 year old and the hot-tub was definitely his highlight ! Gill was also brilliant and easily contactable whilst we were there. During our stay at the cottage we visited Crich Tramway Museum, Alton Towers, Carsington Waters, Sudbury Hall and Peak Wildlife Park. All of these were within 40 mins of the cottage and lovely family days out. We will definitely be back to stay in the future!

Upon arrival the property was clean, fresh sheets and towels on all beds, and fully furnished set out ready for a lovely stay. The beds were comfy, shower and bath worked well and the hot tub was delightful. What made our stay was the great communication and friendly nature of the host. They were responsive to any queries and very informative. I would have no hesitation in returning and staying here again.

Great cottage in a great site to enjoy local sights and to visit the Peak District. The large hot tub is a pleasure. The cemetery next door is not made very clear in the advertisement. Would we have come if we knew about the cemetery? Probably not. Elfatih Awad-el-kariem

We had a great week at the cottage with our little boy. There wasn’t a lot of high chair, but we were told of this in advance and had our own. The location was quite and peaceful but close enough to the peak district and Derbyshire Dales. It was spacious and we loved the hot tub. Although we didn’t use it all the outdoor area looked great for summer and kids playing. There is a gate into the driveway which can be closed to stop kids running into the road too. Fabulous place – Ardsley Cottage, August 2021
Absolutely fabulous place to stay. I booked this property as a family holiday for my 50th birthday. It easily accommodated 6 Adults, the bedrooms were really spacious and the beds were very comfortable. Such a peaceful location with some lovely places to eat within a short drive away and a lovely local pub, The Red Lion, within walking distance, just less than a mile away. The food there was amazing. The whole house was spacious and clean and the hot tub was fantastic. So lovely and peaceful to sit in on an evening and had lights in it so you could relax as the sun went down. We visited lots of local attractions whilst there – Chatsworth House, Pooles caverns in Buxton, Warwick Castle, City caves in Nottingham, Ashbourne and Swadlincote snowsports Centre. Thank you to Gill and Liz who were extremely helpful throughout and were very thoughtful in baking a cake for us when we arrived. Bev Barnwell
The most amazing stay, a true privilege. – South Lodge, April 2021
This stay was by far the most amazing stay we have ever been on. From the very start we felt at home, we was blown away by the attention to detail throughout the cottage, everything was very Covid-19 secure, immaculately clean. The garden is award worthy, the care, love and attention that goes into the garden is beyond what anybody could ever expect, truly beautiful. The garden also made for the perfect backdrop for me to propose to my girlfriend (now fiancé). We had the pleasure of seeing the Two resident ducks that usually reside in the pond, every day of our trip, amongst other beautiful wildlife. The hot tub was the most luxurious thing, there is nothing better than relaxing in it on a nice evening. Furthermore, nothing was ever too much trouble for our hosts, we felt very well looked after. Gill, Liz and team left us a card and a bottle of prosecco after we told them about our engagement. This trip has truly been a huge glimpse of hope, in an otherwise terrible year due to Covid. We will cherish this place, and continue to return. Words cannot capture how great a place this, I can only recommend you come and see it for yourself.
